~ June 22 Dance Harborside ~
I am recommending that all summer events be held outside, preferably in a similar setting. This was fun, easy to throw together, and well received. There were dancers from different areas and genre , all local Rhode Islanders. The hostess was Barbara Donahue , and it was held out behind her studio in Tiverton, R.I......My complaints first, get them out of the way. There was no curtain on the dressing room window to the outside, (good thing I know how to tent myself whilst changing). The steep stairs down to the lawn , with only veils for a railing on one side were kind of scary, and after I got down them, I stayed down there as I am very afraid of open stairs. The performance lawn was lovely, but next time I come in by boat, as Barb suggested. But, the view was to die for, especially at sunset. The line-up: Barbara doing a cute and lively dance with Bella Donna and Eddie Thacker playing drums. Then, she and her her students did a nice veil dance out onto the dock and back again.Next came a Hip Hop group. Then , Samara, of Portsmouth showed us how her act at Waterfire looks, all costumed in Goth. The one that blew me away was little Rosie Speck, daughter of Kristie a local teacher from Portsmouth. This child was so focused, it was a pleasure to watch her.Usually, child dancers leave me cold, but this one......I see a B.D.S.S. in the making. Her music was new and modern, and her moves were right on beat.I would advise her to work on eye contact, because when she makes it.....Ka-powie. She has the "Look" like no one I have seen in a while.(Sorry, I lost track of the order, it was awhile ago.I have been sick, and I can't make my daughter write for me, even though she is still doing a lot of my work. Also teaching my classes for me.)Okay, There was an excellent African Troupe , that I thought had great energy, and good moves.I know the director is Michelle Bach Culibaly from Providence.I really liked the veil dance that Bella Donna did next.It was so appropriate to the sunset after Serena passed, and I am sure she smiled down from Heaven. The veil Bella used was really Antique, or sure looked it.It became like the windblown sails on the harbor behind her.I was transported back to a lovely time in bellydance.Barbara danced almost every number other than the solos, and other troupes, I do not know where she finds the energy. Her flamenco was nice, and she danced on her drum briefly as Bella Donna, who is also an excellent drummer, played for her.Me, well, by all accounts I was "graceful", "passionate", "A vision of the Balkans "..oh stop you're making me blush.Well, it was fun, wish there had been time to eat all the goodies I saw.I also wish that it did not get so damp and chilly that we all had to move inside .The studio space was quite cramped compared to the spacious lawn.My twenty yard skirt had to be reigned in quite a bit, she is kinda rowdy like me..Gypsies.....But it was challenging and I have danced in much smaller rooms. The pictures are here somewhere.I am still trying to figure this out.I see I have 4 friends, but then it says 1..I dunno.I am just not computer literate enough .I like Multiply, and highly recommend it for anyone who wants to set up a free, easy to use , and pretty website... Thanks for bearing with.Organizers, this was a snap to put together.....All, you need is an idyllic setting, some cd's , a couple of drummers, and dancers...Let me know..:-)) www.anajim.multiply.com - Unsubscribed , posted 07/19/07
